Had a family event as a part of our son's 21st weekend. Such a great time! Highly recommend! A+++++
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for the fantastic 5-star review! ⭐ We’re thrilled that Xscape Space could be part of such a special weekend celebrating your son’s 21st.
There’s something pretty special about getting the whole family together, adding a few puzzles, a bit of friendly competition and plenty of laughs! We’re so glad you all had such a great time.
Thanks for choosing Xscape Space and for the A+++++ recommendation.
Response from the owner:Thanks so much for the 5-star rating, Emma! ⭐ We're thrilled you had a great experience with us. We really appreciate you taking the time to leave a review and hope to welcome you back for another adventure soon.
As a big fan of escape rooms, I was keen to try one in New Zealand and happened to be passing through the area. Definitely fun and I would recommend to other fans. Some of the puzzles were really good and different to things I've seen before, but a couple felt like they were more likely to be solved by players due to luck rather than understanding. Right at the end, one mechanism didn't work which meant the gamesmaster had to come into the room and try to fix it, which detracted a little from the game.
Nonetheless, I'm sure that was just a bit of bad luck and would definitely recommend people to try it out here - the price is better than the others I saw around the South Island. If I had been in the area longer, would still have gone back to try a second room!
Response from the owner:Thanks so much for taking the time to leave such a detailed review! ⭐ It’s always great to hear feedback from an experienced escape-room fan, and we’re really pleased you enjoyed your Xscape Space experience and found some of the puzzles different from what you’ve encountered elsewhere.
We’re sorry that one of the mechanisms decided to have a moment of its own right at the end! That’s certainly not how we want the final part of the experience to play out. The faulty switch has been rectified.
We also appreciate your thoughts on the puzzles. Escape rooms are always a balance between challenge, logic and those wonderful “aha!” moments, so feedback like yours is genuinely useful when we review our games.
Most importantly, thank you for recommending us and for choosing to Xscape with us while passing through New Zealand. We’re only sorry you didn’t have enough time to tackle a second room! If you’re ever passing through Nelson again, we’d love to have you back and see which challenge you take on next.
Had a fantastic time great place to go worth every penny also a great first date idea the convo never dies though we would of in the serial killer room well put togeather. Lovely staff too 😊
Response from the owner:Thanks so much for the fantastic 5-star review! ⭐ We’re so glad you had such a great time and thought it was worth every penny.
And we LOVE that you chose Xscape Space for a first date! Escape rooms are definitely a good way to find out if you’re compatible — although perhaps choosing the Serial Killer’s Lair for date number one is a little brave! 😂
Thanks for the lovely comments about our rooms and our team. We’d love to see you both back for your next Xscape!
We were having an amazing time until an honest mistake ruined the rest of our visit. We accidentally took a photo in the room, largely because a 'no cameras' policy was never clearly communicated to us prior to starting. Instead of a polite reminder, the staff reacted unpleasantly, treating us poorly and rushing us to finish and leave (that's how it felt to us anyway). They did try to explain afterward, but by that point, the experience was already sullied. Better communication clarifying that 'no phones' strictly means 'no photos' would have been appreciated.
Response from the owner:Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that what was otherwise an enjoyable experience ended on a disappointing note.
We do understand that mistakes can happen, and we certainly don’t want any guest to feel uncomfortable or unwelcome. However, we would like to clarify that our no-phone and no-photography policy is communicated to all teams before entering the rooms as part of our safety briefing. There is also clear signage inside the building, next to the TVs, reminding guests that photography is not permitted.
The reason for this policy is not simply about phones. Our rooms, puzzles, clues, props and game design are original intellectual property that we have invested considerable time and money creating. Like any business, we need to protect that intellectual property so that the experience remains special for future customers.
Our staff are required to address photography when it occurs, and we’re sorry if the way this was handled left you feeling rushed or that you were being treated poorly. That was certainly not our intention. We did try to explain the reason for the policy afterwards, but we appreciate that by then the situation had affected your experience.
We’re genuinely pleased to hear that you were having an amazing time before this happened, and we’re disappointed that the misunderstanding changed how you felt about your visit. We appreciate your feedback and will continue to look for ways to make our pre-game briefing as clear as possible for every team.
Have experienced 2 different escape rooms now and enjoyed both times. Lotsa fun with friends, helpful if you don't all think the same lol. Nice friendly staff, accessible location with good parking, easy to book online. Would definitely do again, you just want to challenge yourself to do better, best way don't over think it!
Response from the owner:Thanks so much, Linda! ⭐ It sounds like you’re officially been converted to escape rooms.
We love that you’ve tackled two different rooms and had a great time with both. And you’re absolutely right — having a team that doesn’t all think the same way is half the fun! Sometimes the biggest challenge is convincing everyone that your idea is the right one. 😂
Thanks for the lovely comments about our team, location and easy online booking too. We’d love to see you back for round three… we have a feeling you’ll be determined to beat your previous times! 🔐⏱️
